Through a Business Lens

Editor’s Note

While some consider the fashion industry ludicrous, others have created an empire with the ethos of good taste, high quality and creativity – an industry that can go beyond profits redefining the culture and the way of living of an entire nation: as Italians have taught us throughout the years.

In the creative world, many face the difficulties of “showing me the numbers” and the perception of a “trivial industry”, but in recent years even the art and craft makers have proved to be a solid business with platforms such as Etsy valued at more than $1 billion. Other creative industries, such as theatre are also making considerable contributions to the economies of financial hubs not to mention fashion bloggers that have proved to be full of economic resources for the fashion industry. And while it is true that the creative world is massively benefiting from new ways of communication, high technology and globalisation, there are still a lot of economic challenges ahead for further funding and sustainability of new business models. This month we take a closer look at these sectors through a business lens!
