NEW YORK, United States — While Kristen Arnett, a long-time model, a pioneering eco-friendly make-up artist and the creator of the Green Beauty Team, was hanging out in Manhattan over the weekend, I had the privilege to meet her and ask her a few choice questions about holiday make-up. I know you will find her tips very helpful!
Kristen’s talents have graced the faces of many top models, been seen in glossy magazines and walked the runways of New York, Milan and Paris, but Kristen’s true passion is spreading knowledge about eco-cosmetics through the Green Beauty Team.
This website helps ladies like us make the switch to eco-friendly cosmetics with tips, advice and recommended products.
Kristen committed to work exclusively with eco-friendly cosmetics after she personally begun making the move towards more natural make-up. Noticing the difference in her complexion made her realise that her clients would benefit from non-toxic products as well. As the skin is our largest organ and absorbs everything that is put on it, using cosmetics that are free of toxins and chemicals became paramount to Kristen’s profession. Working tirelessly on creating a professional make-up kit from green products took endless research and testing, but Kristen says it is well worth the effort knowing that what she puts on her and her clients’ skin is safe and clean.
Now an expert in the field, Kristen continually offers new information and sound advice on everything from shampoo, skin cream and lipstick. Check out her tips below and find out more at the Green Beauty Team.
How to apply the ever-difficult red lip for the holidays?
Ahhh the red lip! There are three very important things women must devote their full attention to when attempting this rather daunting make-up look and they might not be what you expect. Follow this steps for stand-out lips that beg to be kissed under the mistletoe!
- Conceal, cover and even out all hints of red, blue and other discolourations on the face before you attempt a red lip, especially around the nose, mouth and chin.
- Be precise about your shape. Red must be carefully placed on the mouth…in a flattering shape. Hard points, blobby lines, uneven sides and crusty corners are not glamorous. Dust some translucent powder over the top when you are finished to set the shape.
- Eat and drink like a lady. Don’t let the perfect red lip smudge, smear or fade.
What is your interpretation of “Gala and Glamour” for the holiday season?
This is just about the only time of year I think pulling out all the stops is do-able. We decorate the tree, put lights on everything and for added sparkle why not continue that with our make-up? Of course I mean doing this with some taste and restraint! I absolutely love the idea of a juicy, sparkling red lip or a metallic eye with big, fluttery lashes. Some gold dust or lotion on the collar bones and shoulders for more revealing outfits is always a fun addition. Feeling festive and glamorous is essential!

In my late teens I entered modeling circuitously through a photo shoot about Yoga, which I have been practicing since I was 13. Since then on I have been lucky enough to work with and seek out designers, stylists, brands and photographers that share my same vision for natural beauty and environmentalism.
